It caught up so that’s why so many episodes in the original series are just full of filler and unnecessary standing around looking at each other when serious events are occurring.
Why are bosses called ‘bosses’?They didn’t think they’d catch up, but they did, so they had to find ways to not pass the manga. You see that after the Freeza arc instead of episodes just sitting around with useless filler that they make whole episodes or arcs just filler. They got smarter about it because Namek arc is terrible at points, but the whole episodes dedicated to filler are actually funny or something. It’s all up to the companies, and that could be the publisher for the manga or the anime, I couldn’t say. I’m not going to act as I know, everyone does it differently. Then there’s whether the manga creator was even involved in the production of the anime too. Just look at LOTR and The Hobbit, Tolkien estate watched over the production of LOTR, but they trusted them with The Hobbit, and that’s trash.
